Have you ever walked into an engineering University lecture? The first thing you’ll notice is the overwhelming smell of aftershave and then the realisation that there are barely any female students in the room. Why is it that girls don’t apply for engineering? The ‘Pink Aisle’ in a toy store is the perfect description of what we throw our young girls into and engineer Debbie Sterling believes it is the toys we play with that makes us girls lose interest in maths and science at such an early age.
Think about it. Have you ever seen a construction kit for girls? I have definitely been caught red-handed searching the ‘Blue Aisle’ for some Lego or Geomag when I was a kid! Debbie Sterling has brought us a solution in the form of a toy called Goldie Blox!
Goldie Blox is a creative girl who likes to invent and never lets failure get in the way of that! She is a role model for the young girls of this generation and encourages them to build, discover and, most importantly, never give up! The toy ingeniously involves reading and building to get young girls to solve basic engineering problems. The simple mechanisms learnt through the toy does not only stimulate interest in maths and engineering, but also develops spacial awareness skills.
It is the toy I dreamed of as a kid! And maybe, just maybe, the problem isn’t taking the girl out of the tutu, but rather giving her the tools to create her own world! With tutu or without! So lets get some girls to fill up those lecture seats in the engineering department and show the world that we can be more than just a princess!

I don’t even know how I finished up right here,
but I assumed this post was once good. I do not recognise who you’re
but certainly you’re going to a well-known blogger if you happen to aren’t already.
Thank you! I am not a well-known blogger at all! Just a hobby on the side, but I’m finding it hard to find time to blog at the moment.
I simply couldn’t depart your site prior to suggesting that I actually
loved the usual information a person supply on your guests?
Is going to be back regularly to check out new posts
Hey! I didn’t quite understand your question. Thanks for reading my post though! Hope you enjoy the rest of them!

get that type of info in such a perfect manner of writing?
I have a presentation subsequent week, and I am on the look for such information.
Thank you for your kind words! If you need any help, maybe first hand experience of University Engineering lectures or other products that are similar, please contact me!
A fascinating discussion is definitely worth comment.
There’s no doubt that that you should publish more on this subject, it may not
be a taboo matter but generally people don’t discuss these issues.
To the next! Many thanks!!
Thank you for the comment! I’ll see if I can find some other products related to this!

Excellent post but I was wondering if you could write a litte more on this subject?
I’d be very thankful if you could elaborate a little bit more.
Thank you! Would you like me to write more on how girls are deterred from maths and engineering at a young age or about the toy itself? I most definitely can write more!
Great post. I was checking constantly this blog and I
am impressed! Very helpful info specifically the last
part 🙂 I care for such info a lot. I was looking for this particular info for a very long time.
Thank you and best of luck.
Thank you very much! So glad you enjoyed it! Really appreciate this.
Having read this I thought it was rather informative.
I appreciate you spending some time and effort to put this article together.
I once again find myself personally spending way too much
time both reading and leaving comments. But so what,
it was still worth it!
Thanks! Any comment you leave is much appreciated!
Love this post, GoldieBlox sounds like an amazing toy and it’s great to see people actively trying to broaden younger girls’ interests and skills through play! Thanks for sharing such a cool toy with us and bringing our attention to the lack of female engineers Little Lemon, will definitely be buying some GoldieBlox for my niece 🙂
Thanks! I hope you manage to get your hands on this toy for her then!
Anna Lemos, you are so right! We need to stop gender bias not only in the toy shops but in the primary schools, so that teachers encourage girls to design and build as well as to play with dolls and toy kitchens. Toys ‘r’ us are NOT for us, for our intelligent female children, for those who also want to be firefighters, police officers and engineers. So looking forward to reading about and seeing more of your visionary ideas, toys that stimulate creativity and inspire projects for the 21st century female!
Thank you for showing your interest! It is an intriguing aspect of childhood that can alter so much of our future!
